‘Two Birds, One Cornerstone’ – an Infographic

This infographic solving two objections to Christianity by…granting them both and then combining them! The problem of evil vs objections to penal substitutionary atonement – that’s the idea that Jesus suffered the punishment that was due to us humans for our wrongdoing. The idea comes to mind whilst listening to William Lane Craig’s excellent ‘Defenders’ Podcast (in particular the sessions on Christian interpretations of the atonement) and realising how the problem of evil weighed in.

It’s important to note that this is far from the only way to address each of the two highlighted objections, and not the only way to frame them either. For example, I have addressed the one labelled Objection A directly and also several related questions in my series on God and suffering. But it is interesting to see what happens when you just grant both objections and combine them.

Having made the interesting connection, my limited art skills were woken from their slumber and forced (at swordpoint) to get my thought process down in full colour with swirly arrows. I apologise for the handwriting but not for the swirly arrows… ^_^

Infographic shows an objection based on the problem of evil and an objection to penal substitutionary atonement can be solved by combining them.
